What’s the reason for the crossbreed?
Breeding a Golden Retriever with a (Cocker) Spaniel brings
- A great size family dog;
- Reduced shedding (less than Golden Retriever);
- Sound health and hybrid vigour;
- Wonderful temperament, happy and confident;
- Intelligent and playful;
- Good with children and other animals.
These days there are some wonderful crossbreed puppies! There are reasons and advantages for the crossing of two purebred dogs. The resulting offspring should have improved health over the adult, parent dogs and should combine great attributes from both purebreds. The result of the crossbreed should be a healthy, happy and confident puppy that will be a great companion for many years.

Timshell Farm Comfort Retrievers
A Timshell Farm Comfort Retriever puppy has a purebred Golden Retriever as its mother. Our Comfort Retriever puppies have a Spaniel for the sire (either a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, or Boykin Spaniel). Breeding with either of these two Spaniels as sire, produces happy, healthy and wonderfully loving puppies that are great candidates for obedience training, resulting in terrific companions.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an active, graceful, well-balanced spaniel, very gay and free in action; fearless and sporting in character, yet at the same time gentle and affectionate. It is this typical gay temperament, combined with true elegance and royal appearance that make the Cavaliers so special.

At left is
Jackson, our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel sire. Jackson has a very sweet and loving personality. He is a people lover and wants to be with us all of the time. He is intelligent, friendly and gets along well with humans of all ages and other animals.
Boykin Spaniels are called “The Little Brown Dogs that Don’t Rock the Boat” and there is a charming story about their history and how they came to be. Just after the turn of the century, Alexander White of South Carolina found a small, brown spaniel dog wandering around. He took the dog home since it appeared to be a stray. This dog turned out to have extremely good hunting capabilities and a wonderful bird sense. Alexander gave the dog, named “Dumpy” to his hunting partner, L. Whittaker Boykin. The Boykin Spaniel breed evolved from that little spaniel named Dumpy, bred with American Water Spaniels, Springer Spaniels, Pointers and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. The Boykin Spaniel is a great retriever of upland birds and waterfowl, and is very popular with bird hunters in the southern United States. These remarkable dogs will do anything to please. They are trained to both flush out birds and then retrieve them back to the hunter. Carolina has designated the Boykin Spaniel as it’s official state dog. In July 2005, the Boykin Spaniel Club of Breeders was named by AKC as the official parent club. The Boykin Spaniel has been an AKC Foundation Stock Service breed for many years.

Rohan is a purebred Boykin Spaniel with a soft curl, red-brown (liver) coat, and gold eyes that are characteristic of this breed. Rohan is extremely intelligent and a very loving dog. We searched for almost a year to find a Boykin Spaniel with “all the right stuff” for sound health, intelligence and a great disposition. Rohan (Ronie) wants to be with people and is very interested in everything that’s going on around him. He’s a fast learner and lives to please!
A recent bestselling novel “Sweetwater Creek” revolves around a southern family that raises Boykins. They make wonderful companions and love human company.
Quality Puppies from Quality Parent Dogs
Puppies can only be as good as their parent dogs and bloodline. Our puppies are bred ONLY from Golden Retriever and Spaniel parent dogs that have great temperaments, sound health, are very intelligent and of course, are beautiful dogs. Your Timshell Farm puppy will have been “socialized” when you take it home with you. We bottle feed the puppies for extra nutrition (and to keep the moms from becoming depleted) and this makes them LOVE humans from day one! The puppies have daily, hands-on play and attention from us, children of different ages, other adults and play with other litters of puppies and adult dogs, so that they are confident and happy puppies used to a wide variety of things. Your Timshell Farm Comfort Retriever puppy will have dewclaws removed, first puppy immunization, thorough deworming treatments, a tick/flea preventative and we will pay $35 towards a microchip when it is implanted at a later date. All of our puppies carry a two-year guarantee against all genetic illness. We rebate back $75 when you send us your receipt for having three in-home, obedience training sessions.
